Oh my goodness! I didn't expect to be so moved when I walked into the Purple Avocado today! How anyone can read the Purpose on the back of the calendar and not buy one is beyond my comprehension. I am a woman. I am a mother. I am proud. Bravo to the Carson Calendar girls!! I'm sending warm wishes your way Danielle. People of Dayton Also Have Large Loving Hearts
On Sunday, September 2, 2007, I was waiting for my flight in Las Vegas to return home after a business trip to Las Vegas. My husband is handicapped, so we were sitting in the pre-board area for the flight. While waiting I had the sincerest pleasure of talking to a man who appeared to be in his 50's or 60's about some of our life's experiences. During this conversation he told me he had lost both of his kidneys to cancer and was on dialysis three times a week. I asked him if he went to the dialysis center in Carson City and he told me not only did he go there, but went on to tell me how wonderful the staff was and how fortunate he felt to be able to go to that facility. He also told me life had been good to him and that his finances were such that he and his wife were able to live a very comfortable life. Not once did he complain about anything, but shared a most wonderful outlook on life as it is today and his future.
I then shared the Carson Calendar Girl project with him. I told him about Danielle's plight and the establishment of The Danielle Conway Foundation.
It was then time to board our flight home and he was in line ahead of my husband and I. As I headed towards an open row of seats to settle in the gentleman I had been talking to in the waiting area handed me a $20.00 bill and told me to give it to my ill friend. I told him I didn't have a calendar on me, but that they were in my luggage in the belly of the plane and I would give him one when we landed in Reno. He told me he was not giving me the $20.00 to purchase a calendar, but to please give it to my friend who needed the help. I thank him and said, "God Bless You." When we got to Reno I watched for him at baggage claim and he never showed up there.
I unfortunately never got his name, but I will never forget him. He was truly inspirational and I felt so blessed his path had crossed mine. He gave me a reassurance that the human race has many beautiful people. If you read this and know who this gentleman from Dayton may be, please tell him "Thank you" for me again and may God Bless him always.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR - NEVADA APPEAL AUG. 29TH, 2007
A great reason to live in Carson City
The Carson Calendar Girls' signing event this past Saturday night reminded me of the reasons I continue to live in Carson City: The people.
The outpouring of love, support, and generosity we received from the residents and merchants of the community to help make our event a success is so very much appreciated.
We made new friends, reunited with some old ones, laughed, and signed calendars for three hours. Everyone who attended brought something very special to the event, themselves. Thank you to each and every person who attended the signing event as you made it a very special and magical evening for all of us.
To those of you who were unable to make the signing event, but plan on purchasing a calendar from a local merchant we thank you also for your support.
To all the friends and family members of the Carson Calendar Girls who worked the event and have been so supportive to all of us from the start of the project a big thank you to you also.
Your encouragement and devotion to all of us ladies these past few months has truly been a blessing.
Each and every one of you has been instrumental in helping our rosebud of love for a friend blossom into an enormous fragrant rose of love and human kindness.
I have lived in Carson City for 26 years now and its people never cease to amaze me with the compassion and kindness for their fellow man.
Our world today is filled with so much tragedy and negativity, but the people of Carson City always seem to be there to create sunshine and rainbows to help us forget all the ugliness in the world. Thank you Carson City for being the wonderful people you are.

Carson Calendar Girls
August 22, 2007
Their British predecessors raised millions and became famous across the globe from the sleeper hit film based on their story of story middle-aged women posing au naturel to raise money for a cancer center.
Now the phenomenon, a group of women "just hitting their prime", taking it off for a good cause, has come to Northern Nevada.
More than a dozen Carson women, inter-connected through friendships mostly forged through the local stage, are preparing the release of their own "sexy but modest" version of the traditional cheesecake calendar.
They call themselves the "Carson City Calendar Girls" and they're hoping the proceeds from the first run of 10,000 calendars can help Danielle Conway, of Carson City, pay for her fight with colon cancer.
The official calendar release will take place 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bliss Mansion. Tickets are available.
Anyone who's seen the film "Calendar Girls" knows the original group, mostly urbane suburbanite British mothers and grandmothers, fought long and hard against stereotypes and their own better judgment to bare all for a good cause.
The Carson girls, however, come with a bit of a different story.
"Everyone just jumped right in," said Pat Josten, 55, the group's organizer and Ms. October. "We had a delightful time shooting all the pictures. It was a really fun experience.
"Everyone was really supportive of each other - and, of course, all the pictures were done in very good taste."
The group has also established the Danielle Conway Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission to use any money raised beyond Conway's medical expenses to help other locals battling cancer.
In traditional calendar girl fashion, the women posed for photos for the various months of the year and Jay Aldrich, a Minden-based photographer, donated his time and skill to a two-day shoot based at the Bliss Mansion.
"The nature of my business is always looking for something new and different," Aldrich said. "I hadn't done anything like this before and that sounded pretty challenging ... and it was."
Aldrich said each woman was very involved in everything from location scouting, choosing outfits and, of course, picking out the final proofs for the calendar.
They were really good," he said. "It was a hard shoot, like any shoot is, but I gave them everything I shot - they kept asking me 'what about those other outtakes?' and I said, 'there are no other outtakes.'
"They were very thorough."
And the results, one organizer said, will hopefully speak for themselves.

Our local "girls" look hot on the pages of the calendar to benefit Danielle Conway in her battle against cancer. Danielle taught my daughter ballet many years ago, and she was one of the kindest instructors I have ever witness.
Kids would come in tired and cranky from the day, and she would instantly put a smile on their faces.
Come join these hot women with amazing hearts to help a young lady and her mother, Norma, who has given so much to this town. I will be there, and I'm so proud we have these women in our community.

I am very proud to say that two of these beautiful Calendar Girls are my sisters. Ms. March, Dotothy Tate and Ms. Sepetember Carol Tate. I have read some of the negitive press and I am appauled that some people actually think that way. But we do live in a strange world, we elected George Bush President twice. I think all of the Calander Girls, especially Norma deserve a "YOU GO GIRL". I am proud of all of you. See you at the Calendar signing.

Did he buy a calender .....

and he is still entitled to his opinion.

Calendar girls no different than Paris Hilton
I have a hard time accepting the selfishness of one's motivations towards a good cause when they loudly toot their own horn over and over again. For example, the first article I saw concerning Carson City's own Calendar "Girls" only had two sentences discussing the Ms/Mrs. Conway and the other 27 sentences were solely about the calendar girls and their fancied courage. The next notice came from Carolyn and Maizie's journalistic stylings, which began with a reference to themselves and ended with another: "For a good cause, some people will do anything." How much of this project is about these women and their finding an outlet to imitate a movie rather than the cancer victim or cancer itself?

Sold on the Calendar Girls' Self-sacrifices
Most of the women who will be appearing in the upcoming calendar I know
personally, either by acting on the theater stage, being directed by, or
working on a set-build. Each and every woman is the kind of true friend we
would all hope to have during our lifetime. Norma Conway and her daughter
Danielle are going through a very tough time in their lives, as we can all imagine.
All the friends who surround Norma and Danielle would do most anything to
help, including removing their clothes for some "modest" pictures in a
fundraising calendar. I, for one, will purchase several calendars and have
each one signed.
I hope that many, many others in the community will do the same. Keep
smiling "calendar girls" - and "break-a-leg."

Letters to the Editor
Jesus loves the calendar girls, too
I can't believe the bitter outcry on the part of some individuals about the Carson Calendar Girls. I've seen several of the pictures, and personally, I consider them to be modest and tasteful. But if you do not, don't buy the calendar. Who could it possibly benefit to engage in a vitriolic attack? Why quote scriptures to condemn while turning a blind eye to the fact that scriptures apply to you, too? Quotes out of the very same Bible are conveniently ignored while you're writing to the editor and denouncing the whole of America because of a calendar.
Whatever happened to "judge not lest ye be judged," or "let he who is without sin cast the first stone?" Or do you really believe it would be preferable for the newspaper to only print news when you approve? Perhaps it would be wise to look in a mirror before going on a self-righteous attack.
Yes, the Carson Calendar Girls are imperfect, and they may or may not have made the right choices. I guarantee, calendar pictures aside, that as imperfect people all of them have fallen short at some time. I know what decisions I would make in the same situation if it were up to me, and you get to decide what you would do.
But if you want to quote scripture, remember this: Jesus loved all of us and died for all of us. He didn't deliver himself up just for you. Now go ahead and dig up some scriptures to shoot at me, too. It won't change the fact that living with a bitter spirit ruins your own life, hurts those around you, and does nothing to build up or help anyone.

"Life may not be the party we had hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance."
It looks like the Carson Calendar Girls are all "dancing". This quote was significant to a dear friend of mine who died January 2007 of Breast Cancer. Miss February had a chance to boogie with her a few times during her time in Canada. I miss my dear friend, Jan but my dance card can still be filled by my sweetie, Carol Scott, Miss February. Congratulations on a wonderful tribute to women.
